Pregnancy & Skin Care
Pregnancy brings changes in the woman’s body, including the skin. While maintaining a skincare routine is essential during pregnancy, it’s crucial to know the products you can use during this period to ensure the safety of you and your baby.
Recommended Skincare Ingredients to USE During Pregnancy:
1. “Hyaluronic Acid” is a hydrating ingredient that can help plump and moisturize the skin, making it suitable for pregnant women dealing with dryness or dehydration.
2. “Vitamin C” is a potent antioxidant that can help brighten the skin, fade dark spots, and protect against environmental damage.
3. “Niacinamide” can help improve the skin’s barrier function and regulate oil production.
Skincare Ingredients to AVOID During Pregnancy:
- “Retinol” consists of high doses of vitamin A derivatives which can potentially harm the fetus and should be avoided during pregnancy.
- “Salicylic Acid” while low concentrations of topical salicylic acid are generally considered safe however it’s not recommended to be used during pregnancy.
- “Benzoyl Peroxide” is used for acne treatment but it has limited data available on its safety during pregnancy.
Maintaining a skincare routine during pregnancy is important for promoting healthy skin and addressing common concerns such as acne, hyperpigmentation, and stretch marks. In addition to skincare, you will need to get enough rest, eat a balanced diet, and managing stress, as these factors can also impact skin health during pregnancy.
