Thread Facelift
What is a “Thread Lift” procedure?
Threads are placed into the skin for lifting and rejuvenation.Threads also reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improves the skin texture.
The procedure is a minimally invasive technique which is well-tolerated, quick and effective. This makes the procedure one of the preferred treatments to our patients.
Which areas are treatable with Threads?
Face, Neck and some body areas can be treated with different indications.
For face, different areas can be treated as;
- Brows
- Cheeks
- Naso-labial folds
- Marionette lines
- Jawline, Jowl areas
Who could benefit from a Thread Lift?
Thread Lift is suitable for men and women whose skin has minimal/moderate sagging. The effects appear immediately after the procedure with very little downtime. “Thread lift” are not suitable for patients with excessively saggy skin or very aged thick skin. “Surgical lifting” will be a more suitable option for these patients.
What are the Advantages of Thread Lift?
For many patients, the biggest advantage of having a Thread Lift is the short recovery time as well as being a Non-surgical technique to lift and tighten sagging skin. Threads will define the facial contour and can add volume to the cheeks if done by experts with special thread techniques.
In addition, Threads induce collagen production which provides ongoing rejuvenation for the facial tissues. Patients who have a thread lift will notice a gradual improvement in their skin tone and firmness due to collagen stimulation.
Are there different types of Threads?
Currently, There are three main types of threads; Polydioxanone – PDO, Polylactic acid – PLA and Polycaprolactone – PCA.
PDO threads, there are mono, cog and screw threads. Mono threads are smooth without barbs. They mainly tighten the skin and provide a small amount of lift. Cog threads have barbs which provide support and lift the sagging tissue. Screw threads provide good volume restoration to sunken areas of the skin.
PLA threads use cones to hook to the tissue and increase the volume of saggy areas therefore helping to restore shape to the facial area as well as providing a lift. They also regenerate collagen over a longer time than PDO threads.
PCA threads are the newest threads. They leave behind a fibrotic reaction whose lifting and stretching action will continue over a longer time than PDO and PLA threads even after the threads have been resorbed.
Are Threads permanent or absorbable?
All thread types are absorbable into the body while regenerated collagen stays into the skin over a longer time even after resorption of threads.
The process of thread breakdown produces molecules of small molecular weight which subsequently induce the production of collagen and Hyaluronic acid by the skin. Collagen that is formed around the threads improves the skin texture and elasticity resulting in a natural aesthetics outcome.
How long do the effects last ?
PDO threads will stay in the tissue for around 6 months, PLA threads around 12 months, and PCA threads will stay in the tissue for 12-15 months. The lifting effect can last for up to 2 years based on type of threads and lifestyle of patient. The longer the thread lasts the more collagen is stimulated and therefore the result is much better and longer lasting.
Are there any side effects from this procedure?
Patients will be able to resume everyday routine as most reactions are minimal and temporary. Some patients will experience swelling and bruising after the procedure. However, these reactions will settle down within a week.
Most of our patients have little to no reactions following the treatment. Aftercare instructions are given to all our patients and it is advised to avoid any facial treatments / heavy exercises / saunas and any other extreme temperatures for the following 2 weeks.
Which type of threads is suitable for me?
For Facial rejuvenation, PDO mono threads would be suitable as they are completely smooth and are placed superficially. To achieve a powerful lift with improvement in facial tightening and rejuvenation, barbed threads, PLA or PCA threads must be used to hook onto the skin tissue and maintain the lift required. Collagen is formed around the threads and their barbs resulting in an increased effect.
